Exclamation Collection Problems With Calvary Portfolio Service

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Colorado

BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY ! THEY ARE A SCAM !!!!

I had a charge off on an auto loan (5 years ago) and they called me about a week ago. The car was never taken from me and so it really scared me that the car was going to be taken. After sitting in front of the window all day waiting to see a tow truck show up, I found this website and started asking questions. After reading the answers I got, along with some relief, I google searched the phone number. After reading pages upon pages on this company, I found out they were just a junk debt buyer and they SCAM people out of money. I even read that the company scammed people out of money on the debt that had been paid off and settled years before. They have even been calling my parents house and THREATENING ME. I listened to the message and the lady calling couldn't even relay the message right. She was confused on what number I had to call to inquire about "my case". They posed as a law firm, but even my parents laughed at how unprofessional the message was. Not that me not paying the debt is funny, but if she was going to pose as a lawyer and/or paralegal, she could've at least sounded like she knew what she was doing. From the information I found they go by several names and have 2 main offices. One is in New York (which is where they called me from) and another in Arizona. The Owner of the company has a huge house in Arizona and to keep them in the lap of luxury, they scam people out of money. I could go on and on about everything I found but read up on them. I also found out that once they are on your credit report (like they are on mine), they never come off. They re-age the account so that it is always showing as open. Some people that have fallen victim to them and paid what the company was asking for, can't get a letter of payoff or even get the account showing as paid on their credit reports. I'm also aware now that there are A LOT of companies out there doing this so please, RESEARCH ANY COLLECTION COMPANY before you give them ANY money !!! I'm also looking into how illegal their collection methods are. So just be aware !!!

Be sure to document their conduct and report it to the Collection Agency Board. You may also have grounds for civil litigation under the FDCPA and Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
