Default Getting My Daughter Back from Protective Custody

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: Oregon

My daughter was removed from our home this week and placed with her grandaughter. I was told to leave the home for a while due to my drinking. I met with the caseworker and she said that the custody of my daughter is temporary foster care. I will have a hearing that will formalize the temporary custody and will be ordered to complete alcohol treatment. The case will then be reviewed in 60 days to see waht progress has been made. The caseworker said that it is possible that if I do everything I am supposed to do, my daughter can return home. I admit to my drinking problem and welcome the help. I have not drank in 13 days and have attended 22 AA meetings in 4 days. I also took the initiative to register for outpatient alcohol treatment instead of waiting for the DHS referral. My questions are: will my effort show favorably during the first hearing? Is it plausible that my daughter will return after 60 days? The caseworker seemed very caring and genuine.

Yes, and yes. You are doing what they want you to do. *most* case workers want to see the children reunited with their parents, and for them to go on and live healthy happy lives.
(I assume she's with her grandmother, and not her granddaughter, as that would make her kinda old for all this stuff...)
Congrats on stepping up and doing what's right. Good luck with your treatment.

Thank you so much for the response. It's given me hope!! I worked in law enforcement for 12 years and have never been in trouble a day in my life, so this all has me spinning. I have talked to several people in the AA meetings that I have attended and they have has similiar things happen and were able to get there children back after the 60 days, and they were a lot worse off than I am. The fear in the back of my mind is that I just hope that the case worker is being honest with me in that it is possible my daughter can return after 60 days given that I am doing exactly what they tell me to do. They are paying for my outpatient treatment, so I guess they would not do that if they had plans on never returning her. Anyway, thank you so much for the response!!!!

Reunification is always the goal of CPS. Unfortunately most parents allow their drug or drink to take control of them. YOU ARE IN 100% CONTROL of the situation and the outcome. I wish you the best of luck!
