Default Civil Group Lawsuit for Downloading a Movie from a Bittorrent Site

I received a letter from Comcast that a movie company (Liberty Media Holdings LLC) is subpoenaing my information because they got my IP address showing that I downloaded a movie from a BitTorrent site. I did download the movie but I did not distribute it. Comcast says I must file a motion to quash or vacate or else they will provide this company with my information. I have never had this happen and I don't know what to do. I appreciate any help.

Get an attorney, and file a motion to quash or vacate.

It's illegal to download other people's intellectual property, whether you distribute it or not.

(No, I don't want to hear about information wanting to be free or any of that nonsense. It's not me that you need to convince, it's the judge. I'm just telling you what the law is.)

It would appear that Media Holdings has been very busy suing people. Do an internet search on them. You should be able to find tons of info concerning them along with justification to have the subpoena quashed in many situations.

You do need to realize what you did was illegal but the companies filing these lawsuits aren't about attempting to enforce a copyright holders rights but simply to squeeze money out of those that do download illegally. I find that abhorrent.

btw: the porn movie industry apparently is more aggressive concerning this than any other entity. Don't download anything illegally but especially, don't download anymore porn illegally.
