I looked this up after reading your thread and from what I read, sex offenses are tiered. If you were convicted of a low-tier sex crime, you can petition for removal from the sex offender registry after 10 years. If you were convicted of a mid-tier sex crime, you'll have to wait 25 years before you can petition for removal and if you were convicted of a top-tier sex crime, you'll be on the sex offender registry for life. Since you were convicted only 7 years ago, it sounds to me like you'll have to remain on the registry for at least another 3 years, if you were convicted of a sex crime grouped in the lowest tier.
