My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
We are currently live in a downstairs 2 bedroom apartment and just had a renew fifteen months contract 2 months ago. Yesterday, the office staff and a contractor came to my apartment and asked us to move our furniture to our bedrooms so they can smash off the kitchen-living room-dining rooms ceiling and rebuilt it in 2 weeks, or it will collapse in short time due to a big major water damage from previous up-stair tenants. They didnt offer us anything except a few boxes and a few man to help. Today, we told them we are not agree with whatever they asked because how are we going to live like that while construction is going on, they finally offered us to move to another upstairs unit, which we dont want to because we have a lot of furniture to move, and they wont help us move. Did they just break the contract? and what can we do in this situation? If we find another place and move out, do they have to compensate for the loss of time and money that we move out? plus I dont think if I can find another apartment with this price since we are already living here for 2 years, do they have to compensate the differences too?
