My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
A few days ago (13-07-2012) I was pulled over for Marked Lanes and my license plate light being out. While pulled over I also received possession of marijuana and a paraphernalia charge.
The reason my license plate light was out is because I just bought the car and was painting it and accidentally painted over it without noticing. And the reason I was swaying on the road and received marked lanes is because as I said, I just bought the car, and the power steering is going out and the sway bar is broken which makes it difficult to drive perfectly straight. I don't expect those excuses to get me out of the charges, but those are the reasons nevertheless.
I also received possession of marijuana of less than 100g and paraphernalia. The paraphernalia consisted of a one-hitter, grinder, and rolling papers.
My court date is the 24th of this month. There is no way I'll be able to afford a lawyer, as I am 18 working a low paying job and about to move away to college (assuming this doesn't screw that up.)
I was pulled over about a week after I bought this new car. When I bought the car I gave my dad the vin number as I am still on his insurance and asked him to switch it over and he said he would. I just recently found out that he forgot to switch the insurance over until yesterday (17-07-12). So I didn't have insurance at the time I was pulled over thanks to my dad.
The main thing I was wanting to know is about how long will my license be suspended, how much in fines am I going to have to pay, and is it likely I'll serve any jail time?
Also, will I have the ability to drive to/from school/work? And I do have insurance now (Since yesterday).
Thanks in advance.
