My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
A few weeks ago I was cited at my home for disorderly conduct. I had a court date, which I went to, only expecting a ticket. Much to my surprise, I ended up going straight to jail for 5 days, with 25 days being suspended (30 days max.) and received two years of reporting probation along with fines. Over the weekend I was ticketed for theft and possession of criminal tools. I was not taken directly to jail, but was given a court date of this coming Tuesday. I plan to get a public defender and plead not guilty to the charges, but I am wondering if there is any chance I won't be given jail time for violating my probation, being that the charges are unrelated. Is there any way to substitute community service, fines, or even house arrest rather than going to jail? My fiance is seven months pregnant and the stress isn't helping her any so I'm really scared of serving 25 days in jail, even more. I really need some advice.
