Default Teenager Caught Shoplifting in North Carolina

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: North Carolina.
Im 17 and was with a friend, who is also 17, at JcPenny. We we're caught shoplifting $14 worth of stuff trying to walk out. An LP man brought us to the back and I was very cooperative unlike my friend who lied about his age several times. The police came and took down our information and gave us a citation. There was no court fee or any money involved on that citation. Im scared to tell my mom and I need help. This is my first offense!

    Questions:
1- Do i need to bring my Mom when i go to Court?
2- Since there was no money on the citation, will i still have to pay any additional costs?
3- Would the cost of an attorney help me more than hurt since it is a first time offense?
4- What are my probable legal consequences?
5- Could it be just a slap on the wrist?

North Carolina prosecutes 16 & 17 year old offenders as adults, even for minor theft incidents. The fact there was no fine amount on the ticket only means the judge will decide.

Here's a link to the NC theft statutes.

What do you think the Judge will decide for me to pay? A friend told me that the judge can simply give you 50 hours of community service, is this true?

You will need to give us the statute number and court location.

    In general, you can expect:
    -Court costs and fines.
    - Civil Demand from the store.
    - Community Service is definitely a possibility.
