My question involves a marriage in the state of: Maryland
My husband and I got married in Annapolis, Maryland on November 21, 2001. We have a daughter that was born prior to our marriage on May 7, 2000. We signed a Marital Settlement Agreement on February 9, 2007, prepared by an attorney. I have been living in Spain since November 2008. My husband has been living in France since 2009.
We are both French citizens, and the marriage was registered in France as well.
Now we would like to file for divorce since we have the Marital Settlement Agreement prepared by an attorney in Maryland. However I would like to know if I could travel to the US, just to file for divorce at the Court. I have been advised to get the divorce in France and then get the divorce recognized by a U.S. Court. However we paid an important amount of money (US$ 4,000) to get the separation agreement and I donīt want to waste that document.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
