My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: PA
I just went through an interview process with a company. First I met with the Regional Manager who stated multiple times that he desired to hire "somebody young" because the organization had a staff full of 40 & 50+ sales people. He said "I know I shouldn't say this, but we went through 50 resumes and it was a bunch of old guys. We want somebody young like you." During this interview I never revealed my actual age, he just assumed I was young due to my work history and the fact I look young.
He forwarded me on to me on to a National Sales Manager who also re-iterated their desire to hire "a young guy like you", and said they had too many older sales people.
After those interviews they told me they had narrowed their candidate list down to two people, and of those two they wanted to hire me. All I had to do was fly into their corporate office to meet with the VP, fill out the application, and pass the drug test. They told me they never had anyone rejected once they made it to the corporate office and the job was just a formality at this point.
During the interview with the VP, I made mention that I was still young in my career and looking for a job I could grow with for many years. The VP asked how old I was, and when I told him I was 36, he replied "Oh, we thought your were much younger than that." After this the interview was cut short, I never filled out the application or took the drug test, and I was given an early flight back home.
A week later I called to see what was up, and they told me they didn't think I was a good fit and re-listed the job online. Do I have a case for age discrimination here???
