Hi. Im trying to find information for my 14yr old cousin. She is stuck in a horrible home environment. She is looking for love outside of the home because she doesnt get it at home so she has turned to drugs and sex. Her mom cares more about her personal life and relationship with her spouse than her daughter so the only affection she is shown is extreme punishment.
My cousin has called child protective service and complained to administratives at her school on three separate occassions claiming her mother hit her...each time nothing was done because they apparently found nothing - my cousin has since allegedly hit her mom and is now being taken to court on Monday (9/18) by her mother for hitting her.
Regardless, my cousin has been emotionally abused to the point that she is contemplating suicide as her only way out. She is not able to speak to or see any family member because her mother will not allow it.
Recently her mother has also placed a Baker Act on her and claimed she is bipolar (she is not). I was wondering what the Baker Act is for, how long it is in effect for, and if it causes my cousin to not be able to be emancipated.
Also is 14 too young to get emancipated? Is there any way a grandmother or other family member could take her mom to court for custody and win? Her mother would never initiate an emancipation proceeding - so what are her options?
