Default J1 to F1 While in United States

    Hi!
I'm an au pair from Estonia whose J1 visa ends August 30 th and grace period ends September 30th. I have applied to a local college and received an 1-20 from them. Classes start August 29th. I am not subject to the two year residency requirement according to my papers and i currently hold a multiple entry visa.

My questions: it seems that I can change to an F1 visa using the UCSIS ELIS system without leaving the U.S. to go back to a consulate in estonia.
    1. IS there enough time to do this?
    2. most important: will it be a multiple entry visa, and if i isn't can I change to that the first time I go back to visit Estonia, after starting school? Or would I have to stay in United States and never leave until schol is complete.
    3. Am I more likely to get the student visa if I go back to Estonia? It would be hard at this point to go back before late august, and then i'd have to immediately leave to come back for the start of school.

    Thanks very much

( I read the University of pennslvania website, http://www.upenn.edu/oip/isss/cos ( not my school) but I stil have theses questions)

    1. Typical processing time for change of status is 2.5 months, so odds are you don't have enough time.

    2. F1 visas are multiple entry visas. There may be a rare exception here or there; that would be annotated on the visa.

    3. It's not so much a matter of likelihood as it is a matter of timing.
