    Default Racial Discrimination at a Fortune 500 Company

    My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California

    I work for a well known Fortune 500 travel company in a large metropolitan company. There are over 25 managers at my office with all the minority managers being on the lower levels, and the white managers in the upper levels. In the past 3 years only 3 people have been promoted and they have all been white managers in the lower levels to higher positions, everyone else has been said to be un-promotible despite record sales/goals in the past 3 years. There were only minorities in the lower manager positions till 3 months ago a new white manager was hired. After 3 months in training, the new white manager received a better job offer and gave his two week notice. He then re-appeared before his two week notice stating he changed his mind, after which we found out he was promoted to a higher level manager leaving all minorities managers who were much more qualified to take a higher manager position. This white manager was inexperienced in the business, didn't have any previous experience that differentiated him to be more qualified and did not interview for the higher position. Every lower manager has asked how to be promoted and was told they need to make 5 enhancements to the "business". He was not even complete in his training. He did nothing out of the ordinary, or even have a chance to exhibit any talents as he was still in training. Now he is promoted to Senior Manager in a business he doesn't know or have any previous experience in.

    Do I need to contact the EEOC for racial discrimination or should I just chalk his success and all the previous "white" managers success to luck? I have never been one to believe that as I have worked in other major corporations.

    If you believe there was illegal discrimination, you can either live with it or take whatever action is available to you. Filing a complaint with the EEOC would be the first step if you decide to take action. What you do is up to you.
