    Default Marriage and Work

My UK girlfriend and I want to get married. We've not known each other that long -- less than a year -- but we really want to be together. It's difficult for me to make heads or tails of the process, but so far as I can figure out, it works a bit like this:

    1. Meet in person (done)
    2. Get fiancee visa
    3. Get married within 90 days

Where this breaks down for me is how she goes about getting permission to work in the United States after this. I make enough to support her, but she wants to work when she gets here. I know that she's eligible for a green card, but I also know that can take as long as a year and a half to go through. Basically what I want to know is this:

    • Will immigration care that we've not known each other for that long?
    • How does she go about securing gainful and LEGAL employment in the United States?

    1. Not only yes, but hell yes.

    2. I don't know. What is she qualified to do? (that's a serious question, and I have a reason for asking it that has a direct relationship to what you are asking)

    1. Ok, so what do we do about that?
    2. She's in social media and quite successful at it, as well as having experience in account management. She could do a lot of stuff in marketing, advertising, etc. Note that I'm mostly trying to get an answer for the "LEGAL" part of that question, not have you find her a job. Obviously.

She is eligible for a temporary EAD as soon as she enters on the K1 visa.

So I guess mostly what I need to know now is about the first part -- the fact that we've not known each other that long. What do I do about that?

There is not much you can do apart from spending more time with her, immigration has to be cautious about people marrying shortly after they met and who come to the US

How many times have you met in person? Met each other's family? Proof of spending time together?

Hung out a bit when I lived in London. No proof of that that I can think of. She's going to meet my family in the short term. There are pictures of us together, but not a ton, not to mention her paperwork at customs saying that she came to visit me for two weeks.

It's kind of a weird Internet romance thing, but I can't imagine wanting to be with anyone as much as I want to be with her... sorry for making this Expert Romantic Confessions. Hah.
