My question involves police conduct in the State of: New York
Hi fellas,
I've been having a debate with a friend of mine (who is actually headed to law school in the fall) regarding police investigations and credit cards.
You see in TV shows and movies police obtaining the suspect's credit/debit card information, and then using their recent charges (subway tickets, hotel rooms) to catch them.
Our question is: how much of this is actually legit, and how much of it is Hollywood?
If the police obtain your personal information through your credit card company / bank, are they required to notify you under privacy laws, or can police do it quietly?
Thanks for any thoughts!

Doesn't every cop shop have stuff like that?
