Victim of Child Sexual Abuse

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: CA, NC, OH, MN, WA

I have been away from my abuser for over 8 years now. I want to know what I can do to get him prosecuted for what he did to me.

Sexual, mental, physical and emotional abuse started in CA when I was 8 years old. It continued until I was 26 years old. It was from my step father. Molestation until I was 11. Full intercourse started when I was 12. It happened in a few different states.

Is there anything I can do or has he gotten away with it?

I do hope you're in therapy to help you deal with this.

Your situation goes beyond the scope of an internet forum though. You need to speak with an attorney to discuss exactly what happened and when, and what (if any) options you might have.

I can't speak for other states, but if you are 34 now, and the abuse began 22 years ago, the statute of limitations ended long ago. If you have been away from your abuser for 8 years it will depend upon what state the most recent abuse happened in, and what it entailed. Even if forcible rape, chances are that in many states the time has passed for criminal prosecution and, likely, civil suit as well.

As with Dogmatique, I strongly urge you to seek therapy for whatever happened to you. You should also consider consulting an attorney to help determine your civil options, if any, as well as to advise you on the course of action to take with regards to inquiring with the agencies of jurisdiction on the possibility of criminal prosecution - even if remote. Concentrate on healing yourself, and do not count on prosecution or a lawsuit to help make you whole, because those may not happen.
