My question involves child support in the State of: MO
After being released from the military due to my increasing health concerns I applied with the VA back in the middle of 2005. After a number of surgeries and 3 car accidents later I found myself unable to work. I'm currently going through a very tireing divorce which involves the matter of our 1 child who turned 2 in Feb. Child support was requested from me a few months ago so we have been trying to come to terms with her on this but my problem lies here: I am disabled, unable to work and the only income I receive is my VA benefits which is a few hundred less than $1000 per month. The VA gives me $90 for the ex as a dependant so she is in the process of getting removed so my check will go down even more than it is and they give me $40 for the child. They said that's enough for a baby each month so would not increase it no matter what I tried to do and show them. The VA said $40 was going to be enough and my ex is asking for $195. I was also served with papers basically telling me the courts and systems need me to increase my income to cover, to get a job as I am being ordered to cover the daughters medical insurance. I do not even have medical insurance myself! All I have is the VA. I have applied for Medicare and was turned down several times. I was told Social Security would pay the child support but they just recently let me know they were also turning me down. Social Security is telling me I make too much from the VA so I do not qualify! I am not trying to weasle my way out making payments even though I am not in the childs life for over a year and a half nor do I ever plan to be again but I have tried to work it out so it would be a fair amount and I would be able to pay it but it's just not looking good. I understand being responsible for the child but I am also responsible for myself and barely over $800 hasn't been treating me very well so far so taking about $100 off for removing the wife and about $200 more for the kid leaves me to live off of just over $500 a month! I can not work but I'm getting paperwork telling me I have to. I do have a bad attorney who proves to be unavaible and useless on top of it so I am just lost as to how this can happen and what I can do. I'm not trying to get off scott free and just walk away from my responsibilties but other facts are involved
