Post I Shoplifted and Now I Need a Job

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia / Alexandria.
I live in Maryland. I committed the crime of shoplift not to long ago yes i admit i did it. I will not face down the truth of the foolish and idiotic thing i did. My question is will i be able to apply for a job I am about to 16. The event didn't happen to long ago maybe like a week ago. I still have not received my court summons or court date. If when i apply for a job what do i jot down? This is a first offense never had any problems till now. I screwed up big time and i regret what i did. Please help. Thank you.

The good news is that because you are so young after you are 18 you won't have to admit to it. The bad news is that you'll have to answer questions honestly on your job applications until then. Many applications only ask about felonies so you might be okay.

You and your parents can attempt to work out a disposition in the juvenile court that will avoid an adjudication of the charge. What that might be depends upon such considerations as your prior history of encounters with law enforcement, your home, community and school records, the policies of the court, and the facts of the offense.

Rebeka....you need to stop posting. You don't know anything about law. Read, learn, but until you have any knowledge.....please, you are not helping anyone, and making it harder on us volunteers who have to correct your errors.

Laws vary by state and even by county and township. This is why we advise a local attorney, who knows the local laws, is familiar with the proscecutor, judges, etc.

One township may offer the original poster a first time offender/youthful offender deal.....many others will not.

She will have a hard time finding a job for years. It will affect her college applications. It can affect even getting a credit card or an apartment. THAT is reality.

My question is will i be able to apply for a job I am about to 16. Of course you can apply for jobs. You can apply for as many jobs as you want. The question is whether any employers will want to hire you with a recent shoplifting arrest and, I expect, upcoming conviction (or perhaps deferred adjudication if the court is lenient.)

This is a mistake you need to learn from and it seems that you have. Do not EVER do this again. EVER.

Apply for jobs and if you get any interviews, at the end of the interview (or when you are asked about any arrests/convictions), tell them what happened, that you realize you made a horrible error in judgment that will never happen again. Then hope for the best.

rebeka is a troll. I suspect she's posting inaccuracies (and outright lies!) deliberately, in a juvenile and idiotic attempt to mess with people's heads. I also think she doesn't return to threads she's thrown wrenches into, so she actually never sees our "stop posting here" and "rebeka's a troll" posts.
