Default Finding a sublet in New Jersey

So this is my issue. My roommate made living with her impossible. She constantely was threatening to sue me over crazy things. She even called the cops on me over a bogus charge. It got to the point that I avoided going home at all costs in order to avoid her and her accusitions. Plus she is always behind on rent. So I took it upon myself to find somewhere else to live. My lease isn't up for about 5 more months with my roommate but I signed another lease just to get out of there because I was scared of what she would do next. She said she would find someone to replace me on the lease but she has yet to do so. Is it my legal right to find someone to replace me on my lease if the landlord agrees, or do I have to get my roommate's approval? Can I take any legal action against her? Thank you for your time.

Your roommate could exercise a privilege to reasonably refuse an alternative roommate you find. That may include issues of gender - not many women, for example, would be comfortable living with a strange man.

If you are seriously honest with potential roommates, will you actually be able to find one?

Understandable. But is it right that she gets a free room because she acted crazy? What if she posted a description of what she wants in a roomate on craigslist and I adhere to that description and find multiple people for her. Can I take her to court if she refuses all of them? Isn't it part of the Good Faith act that I trusted that she would find a replacement in a resonable amount of time? And once that time passes I find people for her and she still refuses even if they are exactly what she asked for? Then can I prove that she's purposely not finding a roomate and take her to court after that because she is "dragging her feet"?

You were the one who picked her as a roommate. Unfortunately, there can be a significant cost to making a poor choice of roommate.

So there is no "good faith act"? That doesn't seem right that the US legally let's others do things like this to people. I don't understand bad people and how the legal system lets them "legally" get away with things like this. But if that is true it will be something I will just have to deal with. Karma will come back to bite her in the butt, that's all I can hope for I guess.
