    Default False Harassment Accusation

My question involves restraining orders in the State of: TN

I hope I'm in the right forum.

I have an ex-girlfriend who has threatened to file a harassment report on me with her local police department. The irony is, I'M the one who is desperately trying to get away from her. I haven't seen her in months, and I'd like to keep it that way. She's angry concerning the split and she knows that since I'm a police officer on my probationary period, it wouldn't take much to fire me. I have no problem staying away from her or not contacting her. If anyone is being harassed, it's me. She has threatened to contact my parents and tell them what a "loser" I am. She has already contacted friends of mine through facebook and talked bad about me. It got to a point where I had to call her mother and ask her to talk to her daughter about not contacting my friends or family.

I guess my question is, can she file an order of protection against me even though she has no evidence that I have harassed, threatened, stalked, etc. her? I mean, can anyone just file an order of protection against anyone without proof? I'm concerned about it, as it could effect my job.

If somebody wants to file for a restraining order, alleging that another person is harassing them, that person may do so.

My experience with restraining orders is that it takes more than a person's word. If I were you I'd talk to my superior officer about it and leave out you calling the girl's mother--just to cover your own butt.

More than the person's word to file? (Didn't you read the question?)

After looking at your posting history I'd hazard a guess that you've been served with a restraining order a time or two.

    Or more!
