My question involves adoption law for the State of: Tennessee

My youngest son's father and his new wife have filed papers behind my back to terminate my parental rights so that his wife can legally adopt my son. The basis is that they are saying that I abandoned my son for seven months and went to Texas. It's almost impossible to find a job right now in a small town unless you know people, I figured that if I went back to Texas where I am originally from, I would be able to find a job a lot easier. My son's father knew about the move to Texas a month before it took place and we had a verbal agreement that I was going to be able to call and talk to my son once a week. I never missed a phone call and I sent him things for Christmas and other occasions, I wrote him letters and sent him pictures whenever I could. I am now back in the state of Tennessee to try to start over once again to get on our feet again. We gave up everything we had in Texas to stay here and try to fight for my son. I would like to know what I need to do to be able to prove myself as a fit mother and to avoid having my rights terminated. They have threatened me and tried to intimidate me through this process and want me to just sign the papers, his father told me that he would still let me see my son if I signed my rights over but I'm afraid that I will never see my son again if I do that. They have been in contempt of court when it comes to my visitations since he's had custody and has kept me from him consistently when he felt like it. His wife is also very hateful towards me in front of my son. I don't know really what my options are but I do know that I want what is best for my son, but if there's a chance that I still can be that for him I want to know so that I can at least try to stay in his life.
