Default Indiana Emancipation and College Financial Aid

I am currently 19 years old, however, as I am attending college, I am still a dependent of my mother. It's just that my mom can't afford my schooling and I am taking out student loans. Someone told us I might have less trouble with taking out loans and such for my school if I get emancipated. Is it true, and if it is, how can I go about doing it? Is there a way to not have to spend too much of my mother's money? I go to school in Illinois, but I live in Indiana.

For financial aid purposes you likely are already being treated as an adult by your school, as you are above the age of 18. Also, if you still are financially a dependent of your mother, that's how your school will regard you. You can sometimes convince a school to not include parental income in financial aid calculations if you have established a history of financial independence. You should check with your college's financial aid office to determine their policies.
