Caught with Weed in My Car

My question involves criminal law for the state of: OH

On Sunday morning, I went for a drive and was parked when a cop pulled up behind me. I had a marijuana pipe on my floor and he spotted it, and proceeded to find a small bag of personal use marijuana (around a gram). I also had cigarettes. I'm 17. I wasn't written a ticket or cited for anything, but they called my mom and said I'd get a court date in the mail. Then they just let me drive away.

My first question is, do you think they'll really make me go to court or were they just messing with my head? I've never been in any kind of trouble before.

My second question is, what will the punishment be? And is there any chance of reducing or avoiding probation? If I get a lawyer will that help?

Court is a probability. So are fines. So is probation with drug testing.

A lawyer would help reduce the charges.

You'll get something in the mail....what state are you in and how old are you.....cop just happened to pull up behind you and peruses the interior of your vehicle ? sounds like a bogus scenario

Since this is your first prosecution, you're likely eligible for conditional release, which means that after you successfully complete the terms of your probation, you walk away with a clean record.

Most states possession of less than an ounce isn't even a crime - its on a par with Jaywalking across a street.....so what can they reduce it to ? Spitting on the sidewalk ?.....many states say a 2nd offense is more serious but if they don't finger print you for the first offense they have no record of it (unless you tell them) tell us more about how this cop just happened to walk up on your car and look inside.....you're leaving out some details......"Personal Use Pot" Is that on the label of the baggie ?

Stop breaking the law ... you're lucky you are a minor. Straighten up or you'll only be able to dig ditches for a living.
