My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Georgia

I am under an employment contract with a company that began in August and ends in June. However, the contract states that salary will be paid in monthly installments over twelve months, which means my last paycheck should be at the end of July.

I have not been terminated. I will finish out the contract until June; there is absolutely no indication that the company will terminate me before then. However, my supervisor asked me to write a letter of resignation to document my length of service at the company, and that I send the letter at the end of May. I'm confused as to why I need to do this.

If I send a resignation letter at the end of May stating that my last date of employment is in June (as stated in the contract), is the company still legally bound to pay me until the end of July?

Thanks.
