Unless you have signed a contract with this company stating that you will provide X amount of notice upon resignation, then you're not legally obliged to provide notice when you resign. Did you sign such a contract?

In the U.S., you can quit a job any time you want. There are rare circumstances where an employer can stop you from working for somebody else for the duration of a contract (e.g., sports figures under contract to a team) but they cannot make you show up and work for them. If you have an employment contract with a clause that triggers some kind of penalty, share the details.

An employer can state in references that you quit without notice.

May i know what will happen if the company sue me for resignation without notice? Nothing. Unless you had a binding employment contract that required you to give a specific notice period or required you to work though a certain date, your employer has absolutely no basis to sue you and there's no legal theory under which they could even try.

    Good point.

james12, if you're not in the U.S., then ignore my answer. The laws in your country may be very different and may not recognize the doctrine of employment at will.
