My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Ohio
I'm helping my girlfriend get some of her bad financial history settled. She has two accounts that have been sent to collections, and we're looking to get them paid off with her own money.
We have bargained for offers that are much lower than she initially owed - but I wanted to get a legal perspective before sending a check off to the debt owners. I hear it's good practice to have them sign a 'Pay for Delete Agreement' and keep a copy of the payment that was sent.
Basically, how can we have legal security and peace of mind when we send payment in? How can we be sure the money will be received, and the collections taken off of her credit report? Any advice surrounding this topic would be sincerely appreciated.
