I live in the state of Florida, I am 15 years old [will be 16 in a few months] and I am interested in getting emancipated. I live with a both verbally and physically abusive mother [I have photos and audio files to prove this]. Just today she threatened to "beat me until I'm dead and bloody" [this is just talk, while she could attack me it's HIGHLY unlikely that she would kill me]. My whole life has not been abusive. When I was younger, I had the best mother ever but as I got older things started to change and it just seems to get worse all the time. It's not even like she's constantly angry -- when she's in a good mood, living with her is fine but she has mood swings way too often for me to handle. This is not the typical teenage/parent arguing, it's much more than that. I am a very good student and I already have half of my credits earned for the next school year. I work and I have enough money to afford a cheap apartment along with paying all of the bills, rent, insurance..etc costs I would need. I also quite a large sum of money tucked away for me which would be a good starting base when I move out. I'm very responsible and mature. There are no other relatives who will take me in. Foster care is the absolute LAST thing in my interests as I already have a lot going for me, I can afford to live alone [I have begun looking at apartments and I have found landlords who will rent to an emancipated minor] and let's face it -- being taken away from all that I've known my whole life is rather damaging on the psyche. If it was that versus staying at home, I'd choose the latter of the two all the way. I also plan on graduating within the next year which could be a less important reason for the request of my emancipation. A minor who studies at an out of state university is bound to run into some problems as far as renting apartments and such goes. Please let me know if I'm a good candidate and how to begin the process step by step. Thank you so much for reading and for any help that you can offer me. I know that I'm young and I know that the majority of emancipation applications are denied, but I really need to get out of my home and I have not found specific requirements of emancipation for the state of Florida, but I believe I meet the general requirements.
