Default Roommate in Jail, What to Do with His Stuff

My question involves personal property located in the State of: CA

my roommate was arrested 2 weeks ago. I think he is still in jail or in prison. I'm moving out by the end of the month. what should I do with his stuff?
he is not on lease. I called one of his friends, he came to take a look, said he will come and take his stuff but never showed up. I don't blame him because it's pretty much only dirty laundry. so...dumping his stuff look like the only option, but I want to cover my back. just in case if he ever comes after me and sue me for thousands of dollars for his worthless stuff. any suggestions?

Take pictures of the stuff and dump it.

If he's not on the lease, that makes you his landlord. Read here and follow the instructions.

I know, he's in jail, it seems futile. But if you're looking to cover your backside, that's the way to do it.
