Filing Sex Abuse Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California/Nevada.

The state the crime occurred in was Nevada. I have since moved to California.

When I was 15, a man and his girlfriend (both around 20) intoxicated me and the man proceeded to rape me while the girlfriend was in the room, holding my hand and 'shushing' me, saying everything was ok. I cried and screamed the whole time, but did not have the courage to say stop or struggle. I was not sober, and I felt completely powerless. I am now seventeen, and I want to know if I can press charges against the man; I still cry myself to sleep over how I was hurt. I know that him and his girlfriend are no longer together; if she agreed to testify, would there be a real chance of this man getting what he deserves?

You would first need to report it to the appropriate agency of jurisdiction in Nevada. The police or sheriff's office will investigate and if they have probable cause to believe a crime has occurred, they will forward the case to a prosecutor who will then decide if they can make the case at trial.

I would also strongly recommend that you get counseling to help you through what happened.
