Default Can I Be Charged for Underpricing Merchandise

My question involves criminal law for the state of Iowa.

I work in retail & just recently was fired for changing the price tag on a piece of merhchandise & buying it. For one, company policy sates that I am not allowed to sell anything to myself & the original price of the merchandise was about $120, I sold it to myself for about $100 less. My place of employment then called the cops & the officer stated I would be charged once the investigation was over but he never said what exactly I would be charged with. I'm assuming left but I paid for the merchandise, just $100 less then what it was. So my question is what can I be charged with and will it appear on my record. By the way, the reason why I was caught was because the system showed a price change but also showed price changes on numerous of items because no one in the store had did a price change check in months, so almost everything in the store was priced wrong.

Yes, you can be charged with theft. Yes, if so, it will appear on your record.

It looks like 5th degree theft is possible- a simple misdemeanor

I didn;t dig too deeply but it appears the penalty could be up to a fine of $650 and/or no more than 30 days in jail

Yes, it will be on your record unless you are offered a deferred adjudication of some sort or you can and do have it expunged in the future.
