My question involves criminal law for the state of: Massachusetts
Hi, today I was caught shoplifting in Kohls. I shouldn't have done it, I regret it, but I can only move forward from here, right? I'm 17 years old. The retail worth of the items was like $116. This my first offensive, I have no record, but I have stolen from the same store before, they have it on camera, and they recognized me and that is why is I was stopped as I was leaving. Two cops came, but I was not arrested. They did not call my parents, although I told my parents what happened because I felt so guilty. I filled out the papers, but they told me not to sign anything because I am underage. They told me to just go home and then expect a court summon in the mail and Kohls could potentially sue me for what I took. Obviously I am not allowed into Kohls anymore.
What do I expect now? Will this be on my permanent record? Do you think I'll be charged? Could I get into a Youthful Diversion program? How much trouble will I be in? I'm so nervous and scared and I feel so guilty. Will colleges see this? Will my school or work be notified? How much money do you think I'll have to pay? What should I do for court? Please help me out!
