My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia
My friend and I were caught shoplifting at the local Walmart. (Less then 5 dollars worth) She was the one who took the merchandise, and I took nothing. I know I am just a guilty as her, but I wish to know how to react to the rut we are in. We are both 18.
The LP people took us back to a closet room, asked us to give back the stolen items, and to fill out some paper work. One paper was to say "Oh look, we caught you. We need your information". So we gave them our names, address, phone numbers, and eventually they asked for our SSN. Next we were told to complete a written statement on what happened. Lastly, we were given a statement saying we may possibly receive a letter from Walmart's lawyers. We asked if we would be fined, but we were told no. (Atleast that is what my friend told me. I wasn't listening at the time.) I was never really told if we would be fined or not, even though I asked the straight up question "Will we be fined?"
Also, does Walmart handle the civil demand or does the DA handle it?
I am scared and incredibly worried.
I need serious answers please!
It will NEVER happen again. Trust me.
