Default How Do I Protect My Belongings

My question involves a relationship in the state of: sudden break up.
We had a battle royal that escalated to a domestic violence state. I am leaving town in 36 hours for a week and the ex is threatening to dispose of all of my personal things unless I can get them out before I go. I am going to do my absolute best to do so, but I have a job tomorrow in the afternoon and am worried he may start then... Can I tell him I will sue him if he does ruin or dispose of my stuff? Can I sue for that? This is in manhattan, ny.

Default Re: How Do I Protect My Belongings

The only way you're going to be able to protect your belongings by Tuesday afternoon is to move them somewhere safe. You can talk to a family lawyer in your state first thing Monday morning, but I'm not expecting that they can get something before a judge, let alone an order protecting your property (on the assumption that your ex- would respect a court order) before you leave.

If your ex- destroys your property, you can raise the issue in your divorce case and ask that the destroyed items be considered in the division of the marital estate.
