    Default Moving Out at 16

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Texas

I'm 16 and would like to move out. I asked my parents, and they gave me permission. I am not looking to get emancipated, it just seemed like the most appropriate subject choice. I would just like to know how to go about moving out with their permission. I would be moving to Michigan to live with my girlfriend. My father told me that if I do this and I get injured or into trouble or something, they'd be considered negligible and could go to jail. In order to keep themselves out of trouble if something like this were to happen, they would have to report me as a runaway—despite me having their permission—and then my girlfriend could go to jail for harboring a minor. Is any of this true? If so, how would I do this without anyone going to jail? I would like a relatively in-depth process if possible, as I know little to nothing about law. Thank you very much for your time.

Most if not all of it is true. Until you are 18 years old or legally emancipated, your parents are responsible for you and, to a certain degree, what you do. Your parents are free to withdraw their permission at any time, at which point you can be reported as a runaway and anyone harboring you face potential criminal charges.

As for a guaranteed way for you to move out at 16 and there be absolutely no risk to anyone? There isn't one.

What if my parents make my girlfriend my legal guardian? Or something like that? Is that possible? Would it work? (she's 18 if that helps)

The chances that a judge will agree to an 18 year old being made the guardian of a 16 year old are so slim as to be invisible.
