Juveniles Caught with 2 Grams of Marijauna at a Party

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: illinois


On st.pattys my friend threw a party. bottom-line, we were smoking marijauna in the backyard and cops found us.we are both 16. i had only about 2 grams but they weighed it with the bag.i was wondering if I'm really gonna get charge with the cannabis or the cannabis plus the weight of the bag? My friends that had also been at the party was caught with ounce and scale. what do you think will happen to us, both of us have no prior problems with police. also, anymore advice?

The threshold is 2.5g, any amount less than that is the same. It's technically good for 30 days and $1500 fine, but you're eligible for 24 month probation with dismissal of charges if completed successfully. Under 30g (An ounce is about 28g) is a year and $2500, but first offenders also qualify for the same 24 month probation/dismissal.

They're posting this as a juvenile court issue, so the adult penalty is peripheral. Not that it's likely, but a juvenile can potentially end up in detention until he ages out of the system for an offense that would carry a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail for an adult.

The juvenile court will generally look at the juvenile's home, school, community and police records when determining how to treat a juvenile's offense, and where there's illegal drug use is likely to order some form of drug counseling or education along with a period of supervision involving drug testing. Individual experiences will vary.
