Default Becoming a Police Officer With a History of Dismissed Criminal Charges

I want to apply to Los Angeles Police to become a Police Officer. I have a history of 3 arrests but all charges have been dismissed therefore I do not have a criminal record.

They do sound bad but since I am under an alias here I can attest that all I am saying is 100% truthful and that I will tell the recruiter if I can even get that far exactly what happened.

First arrest which I was charged for Sexual Assault. The girl lied in court along with her witness and the case was dismissed. On top of that she had two additional restraining orders on other guys. I was hurt even though innocent for a long time. This happened 17 years ago.

Second arrest I was charged with a DUI but the charges were dropped under Article 894 in Louisiana. I was arrested outside of the vehicle and they made the assumption that I was in the car. I was in the car but I was looking for my girlfriend who ran out into a very dangerous area alone . This happened 14 years ago.

I had one traffic citation for following too closely which I paid so I am guilty of that. This happened 6 years ago.

Third arrest although I was not charged and although I was told by legal aid that I can press charges for assault against security officer. I was arrested for trespassing when a huge fight broke out. I was in the area and they told me to leave so I did but when I was on the side walk down the street they followed me two security guys and I was upset so I turned to tell them I was on public property now and they cannot touch me. That was my mistake because they did touch me. This happened 4 years ago.

This all sounds bad on paper and I already can hear the clicks of the keyboard saying "look for employment elsewhere"

I am looking for hope and to see if anyone thinks I have a shot.

With my arrests I am making the assumption that if I am innocent.

I do not have a criminal record
I have graduated from college with a B.S.
    I have no debt
I have a good credit score
    I have good employment history
I was a professional athlete - NOBODY can outrun me unless they are nationally ranked track athletes
I have a perfect driving record for past 5 years
    I have integrity and honesty

I'm sure LAPD has a pretty extensive background check for applicants. The past incidents may or may not show up on that background check. Even so, LAPD probably has policies that address such matters and they might or might not matter at any rate.

If LAPD does a polygraph examination on new applicants (at some stage of the hiring process), they may ask about incidents in which you were "accused" but not arrested or convicted. Concealing those would possibly result in a failure of the test. Still, LAPD may have policies that "excuse" such things. It's hard to say.

At the end of the day, if that's what you want to pursue, I'd say move forward. The worst that can happen is that they reject you. It wouldn't be the end of the world, and there are other smaller agencies you could apply with that might have more relaxed requirements.

Larger departments tend to have more restrictive and demanding requirements.

Thank you and I will not hide any of my arrests or attempt to. When you hear what happens i.e. how the case was thrown out because the alleged victim and her witness lied in court and how devastating this was to me on top of other facts I am confused between the line of innocence proven by a court system and people's perceived view when hiring. What problems would I cause or liability would I have? I don't understand this part as I am again innocent and proven innocent by a court of law.

Yes, the LAPD and any other department will seek copies of these reports and will look into them. If they are satisfied that there is nothing to them, and your record of accomplishments and work history has been solid over the last decade, you should be okay in that regard. But, if the reports give some insight to other problems involving alcohol, immaturity, inability to hold down a job, deception, etc., then it will be a problem.
