My question involves traffic court in the State of: Washington (Pierce County)
I got a speeding ticket (78 in a 60 zone) around 1am on the 17th. So my 15 day limit to respond is this Friday.
I'm only 20 years old and have never had a ticket and I was hoping to get this deferred. However, when I called the court number on my ticket, the woman said that I should check the mitigation hearing box and then appear and ask for a deferral, however after reading on here that seems like a load of bs, as you're admitting your guilty.
This court has a hearing by mail, where you can contest it by mail and give a statement, should I ask for a deferral this way. I live about 40 miles away from Tacoma, so it really would be an inconvenience to have to show up to a court room.
Any ideas?

And for the hearing by mail option, do I still have to send back my ticket?
The clerk I talked to on the phone was rather rude and acted like she didn't even want to be there... meh
