Petty Theft Procedure

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

Hi,

I got ticket for petty theft 2 days back 2/22/2012 and have a court date on 3/21/2012. I am pregnant and due in a week and may not be able to attend to court date which is kind of early after my delivery. Today I went to court to see if I can post phone the court date but they do not have anything in the system yet. What should I do now?

Lets say if I am able to make it to the 3/21 court date without lawyer can I just ask for more time myself or it is better to have lawyer with me? How to choose a lawyer...everything is new to me.

How should I proceed now. Please kindly suggest something.

Pick up the Yellow Pages (or look them up online).

If you miss your court appearance, it will just make things worse. Warrant for your arrest...oh new kid, maybe send Social Services to do a check up (depending on your area)

I'd get a lawyer to help you deal with it all.
