My question involves name change laws in the State of: Texas

I'm trying to figure out the steps that probably will need to be taken in order to change my 4 year old son's last name to my own, since it is currently the biological father's. I'm in hopes that it won't boil down to needing consent from the father (as are so many others on this board) but I'm not entirely sure if it will or not.

Basically, his father isn't listed on the birth certificate because at the time his license was suspended, and no paternity tests have ever been done. My son was also born out of state (MI), which is also where his father still lives last I ever knew. I have no contact information about the father, nor does the father keep in contact with his son or I. We were also never married.

Will it be likely that with this information, the father will have to somehow agree to the name change and be notified?
Also, after searching the forums, I'm aware of the fact that I can change my last name to match his, but this is not what I'm wanting to do. Before that gets thrown out there, hahah.

Thanks in advance!
