being divorced in louisiana, now living in virginia and finally locating my x husband in michigan can i sue or recoup my back alimoney? It has been several years since my divorce, about 8 years. my x husband disappeared and I never recieved any alimoney with the except of a few months. This has left me in financial dispair with all the debt. Being he was the money provider of the family (no children)I have not been able to pay any of the debt. He has not paid any either. All of this has been on my credit report and has left me in a situation of not being able to move on with my life. The alimoney was set fora 2 year period of $2000.00 a month. But very little was recieved only thru court orders which he ignored. By a email from a friend about a web site posting personal information on people I ran my name, nothing came up, just out of pure curiosity I ran his name and found where he is. He has a contempt of court charge from Louisiana and they will not do anything since he is out of state, not knowing where he went. Can I sue him or is there a limit on time for back alimoney? and if so how do I go about doing this, should I see a lawyer? I am still recieving letters and demands of payment on this past debt and it is stopping me from moving on. I tried to go to the police but they told me to go home and not be bitter. This situation will not go away because of the fact that he has just ignored the creditor and left me with the problem. Atfer all this time I still recieved letters of demanding payment and can not seem to stop the harrassment. What can I do?
