Angry Getting Rid of Unwanted Roommates Without Getting in Trouble

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Kansas

My close friend is having problems with her roommates. Only herself and her brother are on the lease however her brother has allowed two other friends to crash on the couch and floor since nearly November. The reason she has not mentioned anything to the landlord yet is because her brother and his friends are growing and selling illegal substances in their apartment. She no longer feels safe in her place and cannot get out of her lease. If the police get involved can she get in trouble for knowing that the illegal substances were there? Will she get a fine from her landlord for allowing "guests" to stay in their apartment? The "guests" split the brothers rent only and do not pitch in for any utilities or groceries. They also "borrow" her car and go into her room without even asking. My friend is too nice and she has let this go on for far too long. I am tired of seeing her get walked all over and I need to know what can be done to help her. Thanks for any responces.

Default Re: Getting Rid of Unwanted Roommates Without Getting in Trouble

If she is violating her lease with her landlord, or is obligated under her lease to pay an additional fee for additional residents, then her landlord can hold her responsible for the violation and/or money she owes.

If she doesn't want people to "borrow" her car, she needs to take better care of her keys.

We have no way of telling you what the police will find if they investigate what's going on in the apartment, so we can't promise who might or might not get charged. If the police do end up investigating the apartment and she has not notified them about what's going on, though, she's apt to look like a partner in the dealing. Given that the dealers are using her car, presumably to courier drugs, she's making herself look like an accomplice and risking the forfeiture of her vehicle.
