Default Legal to Turn into Angled Parking Spot at 'Harder' Angle?

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: nj
imagine a two way street with solid yellow lines. I turned more than 90 degrees to cross the yellow line and park in an angled spot on the side of the opposite lane. the parking spot is much less of an angle if pulled into from the opposite lane, you know,, angled parking to save lane space as is always less of an angle for the car in the lane it is on the side of. As I was turning into the spot, I parked next to a guy who started backing out. he wasn't moving when i started the turn. he probably saw me and thought i kept on driving and that it was clear for him to back out. i got out the car and he's mouthing off in his car but i can't hear him. he drives away.
1= was it illegal for me to park like that?(make such an angled turn)
2= if he backed into me would we both be at fault or what? thanks.

    1. That depends on whether U-turns are legal in that area and it is deemed acceptable to make turns there. Section 39:4-125 of the motor vehicle code does not mandate that a motorist attempt to make a 180 degree turn in order for it to be a violation. The Appellate Court decided this law applies whenever an attempt is made to turn a vehicle in the opposite direction in the face of a no U Turn sign. Also 39:4-86 says
Except when otherwise directed by a duly constituted traffic or police officer or when the lane in which he is operating is obstructed and impassable, the driver of a vehicle shall not cross an appropriately marked "No Passing" line in a "No Passing" zone duly established pursuant to a duly promulgated regulation of the State Highway Commissioner or an ordinance or resolution duly adopted by a municipal governing body or a board of chosen freeholders, whichever has jurisdiction over the highway.
    2. If you were both attempting to enter/exit a space, you would both likely be cited for an accident under those circumstances.

Probably illegal to cross a solid yellow like you did.
At the very least the guy backing out was not expecting your move.
Had there been a collision there would probably be shared responsibility.

i read turning over a double yellow is legal in some states but not in NJ and maybe other states. Never imagined that.
Any1 know if the drastic angle into the parking space was illegal even if the line were only a dotted yellow?

lurkertom, if he hit me, I bet I'd be 100% at fault cause of the double yellow. If it were a dotted yellow and he hit me eventhough I used a blinker and he was stationary at the start of my turn, it would be word against word with no proof in my favor, so i guess yeah it would be shared responsibility.

39:4-127. Backing or turning in street
No vehicle shall back or make a turn in a street, if by so doing it interferes with other vehicles, but shall go around a block or to a street sufficiently wide to turn in without backing
