My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: MICHIGAN

When I was a collector a long time ago, I seem to remember that in Michigan you have to file suit in the district that the debtor lives.

My Son in currently (and for the next 9 years) in prison. A collection company is suing him where I live. He has never lived here, and in fact doesn't even really know where "HERE" is. A process server dropped off a summons AT THE PRISON in Ionia I sent a letter to the court stating this is not his address, and has never been his address, and asked the case be dismissed (in the 72th)

Am I correct that in Michigan they have to file in the court where he lives? (He has no assists having lost his home in Lapeer and his one time girlfriend took everything that was in the house)

The reply I got from the clerk at the 72nd was that I should contact the atty that filled the suit and work it out with him.

Also, we have no idea what this suit is for as it does not list the original creditor. How do I request information thru the court? We believe this was something done by his x-girlfriend who also forged his name on the car title and took that. By the way, She has since died and we have no idea what happened to his stuff.
