My question involves name change laws in the State of: NJ
Hi. I had my daughter at 16 and bio father was for abortion and I was not and he has not been there from the beginning even after I notified him during delivery. Bio father didn't sign proper documents and I have no info on him or where to locate him. It has just been my daughter and I and when she was 4 I met my fiance (soon to be husband) and he has taken the responsibilities in taking care of her and to her thats daddy. Our daughter is now 14 going on 15 and since she was 10 she has been wanting him to adopt and change her last name. He has wanted this since she was 4 but I wanted to make sure she was old enough for her to make the decision in case later down the road she wanted to try to find her bio father. She doesn't want anything to do with him and wants to make it official with her dad. We have had 2 other kids during the 10 years together and she is strong in her decision to have his last name and adopt. Can we do this after we get married? Do we have to go through the hassle of trying to find him when I don't have his last name nor social security or anything? Please help!
