My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Utah
When I was 18, I ran into some credit problems. My car broke down so my dad took out the car loan. Since then, he holds the loan over my head all the time. Basically, if I do not do what he wants, he threatens to report the car stolen or force sell the car. A pretty bad dilemma.
When we embarked on this arrangement, he verbally agreed the car was mine as long as I pay the payment, which I have. The loan has never gone 30 days past due.
I paid the down payment, all of the maintenance, and every payment since the loan started (I have my cancelled checks for those). Unfortunately, I cannot qualify for an autoloan yet. It has been nearly four years...but credit is credit. If my dad were to try and force sell the car, could I contest it? Or, if the sale were to go through, would I have a strong case for recovering 67% of the current value of the car, since I have paid for 67% of the car?
Thanks
