Default What Are Good Reasons for Emancipation

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: North Carolina

I realize that one of the requirements to be emancipated is that you have to have a job.. Well, I was wondering if these were good enough reasons to petition to be emancipated.

    - I am finished with High School and would like to get a job.
    - I have a stable home to go to with my fiance and his mother.
    - My current address and my mother's workplace prevented me from getting to my old job which is why I had to quit.
    - If I were to move in with my fiance and his mother, I would have a reliable way to get to a job which I currently do not have.
    - I am responsible enough to keep myself out of trouble.
    - I would have more access and flexibility with doctor's appointments, i.e. dentist, eye doctor, etc.

    Thanks!

It's not about reasons. It's about necessity. So, do you NEED to become emancipated?

I believe that I do need to be emancipated in order to get and maintain a job, yes.

Read the stickied threads. "I want a job" isn't grounds for emancipation in any state.

Further, you have no NEED to be emancipated. So sorry, but it's not going to happen.

(Your "need" for a job is not considered a "need". That's a "want". And the court will not emancipate a minor in order for that minor to play house with their fiance)

You're going at it the wrong way around.

A court is not going to emancipate you so that you can get a job. A court will not emancipate you unless you already HAVE a job, and are earning enough to support yourself without help. Living with someone else so that they can pay some or all of your support is not what emancipation is all about.

    Nope.

A good reason to be emancipated is "My parents were killed in a car crash, and I need to be able to enter into contracts so I can keep the utilities on and not lose my home." Aside from that, unless you're a child star who needs the ability to enter into contracts so you can continue to work, there aren't any good reasons for emancipation. Emancipation is meant to protect minors who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances, not to allow minors to flee from home before they reach the age of majority.
