My question involves juvenile law in the State of: florida and ontario
Legal advise, age of consent and travelling laws?
Ive called many lawyers and they cant help me until someone has been charged
seems foolish to me, im looking to prevent that from happening
I have a friend who is 17 years old
She tells me she is frequently chatting to a man of 31 years of age online.
They met through common interests on a social networking site, similar to facebook.
They have been chatting every night through instant messaging.
More recently the conversations became innapropriate. She says she trusts him, and he also confides in her. they shared and discussed their sexual interests, in deep, details, because they really care for eachother.
She sent him pictures that were not nude, just revealing and slightly provocative..
He lives in Florida, USA
She says they were discussing meeting eachther since they had been chatting for so long.
They are both now very concerned and feel guilty for discussing their sexual preferences, because of their age difference. They also decided to put off meeting until she turns 18, which is not too far off.
They have discontinued talking about the sexual subjects.
She is just now worried that there might be trouble surrounding this and did not know where to seek advice as she fears judgement.
She has told me abut this, so I decided to see what I can find out on her behalf.
In short,
What are the laws surrounding ages of consent in Florida USA and Ontario Canada? I understand there are grey areas, and it is confusing to me, and the two.
Is there any legal issues with the two of them instant messaging?
is there a legal issue with them meeting before she is 18, as well as after?
the two really do care for eachother, and wish to at least meet in person because they feel so deeply for eachother, and are troubled by the risk of judgement and legal issues/ action.
He is a very decent man, and was the one that brought up the concern about the two speaking.
He does not want to get in trouble, and has never been. He also does not want her to be troubled by the situation.
Please let me know what shuld be dne here, and what the possible issues surrounding this are.
Thanks,
Annonymous
p.s (not sure which catogory of law this issue falls under)
