My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New York City
I've read a lot about what the landlord can do about a sublease and what the master tenant can do about subleasing the place and what he / she is continuously responsible for. However, I'm curious, what kind of laws bind the subleasee / subtenant? It sounds like if I was a subtenant and I decided to live there and not pay rent I cannot get in trouble for it is the master tenant's responsibility to continue paying the rent. And eviction take a long time along with a lot of paperwork.
P.S. I'm not trying to sublet and cheat anyone. I just want to know what my subleasee is capable off and what he / she can be held responsible for. Thanks!
