My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California.
We are renting a house with a fixed-term lease. The lease expires at the end of the month. What happens after this date? Do we have to be out by then? Do we need to give the landlord notice if we are still going to remain in the home or does the landlord have to give us notice? If so, how much notice? What if we pay February rent does that automatically renew the lease for the entire term or does that make it a month to month lease? If it becomes a month to month lease how much notice do we have to give before moving out? So many questions.
Landlord has been very picky throughout the rental agreement so we want to make sure that we do everything by the book here so we are not unpleasantly surprised. We are currently looking for a new place and would like to be out by the end of the lease but are preparing should that not be the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
