My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Florida

I received an invoice two weeks ago for over $7,000 from a collection agency, I requested the original bill, they said it will be requested to the hospitail and they will mail it to me.

I remember clearly that the hospital checked at time of registration that we were covered and we paid our portion I believed $150 (for a Colonoscopy for my husband in 2009). After receiving the breakdown bill from the hospitals I called the insurance company they said they had sent me a letter to confirm whether I had another insurance and that I never answered; we didn't have another insurance at that time as my husband was unemployed. I asked them if it was sent certified, they said it was sent regular mail, and benefits were placed on 'pend' not paid, as they never received my answer.

Also, the representative checked with her supervisor and told me that after 2years there is nothing they can do, is this true? What is the statute of limitations for an insurance company to paid a bill, which we were certainly covered for. Kindly advise and thanks.
